My thanks to those who responded, especially Paul Henderson
<pgh_at_unx.dec.com> who mailed me on a number of occasions
to try and sort this problem out.
Eventually I found the problem which was a missing directory.
Somehow I'd managed to lose /var/.dt. Once I'd 'lifted'
the directory and files from another system the missing
icons appeared.
I can't thing how I managed to lose the directory. Most
careless of me!
