Digital UNIX V4.0C is shipping now. It has been officially released.
Digital UNIX V4.0C is intended for use ONLY with the recently announced
DIGITAL Personal Workstation au-Series. You should be able to find lots
of information on these at the workstation web site, which you can get
to from Digital's corporate home page (www.digital.com).
On the models that are supported by Digital UNIX, the software is loaded
at the factory.
Media kits are available now, but the ONLY changes in the kits are in the
software to support the new hardware -- if you purchase a media kit now,
you will receive the SAME media that are in the older V4.0B kits, except
that the Operating System Volume 1 CDROM has been updated to have on it
both the V4.0B software and the supplement needed for the new Personal
Workstation au-Series support. If you install on anything except the new
Personal Workstation au-Series, you'll just get V4.0B. You only get the
new hardware support on the new Personal Workstation au-Series systems.
Consequently, there is NO PLAN to distribute a service update with the
V4.0C CDROM media. The next version that will be delivered as a service
update will probably be V4.0D in the October or November 1997 timeframe.
I understand there is a special deal on with one of the models of the new
Personal Workstation au-Series where you can purchase a system preloaded
with both Digital UNIX and Windows NT, dual disks, both licenses, loads of
memory, at a special "one per site" price. So if you're in the market, go
look for the deal on the Web page or call your sales rep or distributor.
