bad disk in file domain (howto get rid of?)

i am getting hard errors on a disk in a multi-volume file domain. i
cannot remove the volume from the domain: that gives errors. i'm
afraid i need to restore the entire domain after removing the bad
disk.

no problem. i know how to restore the domain from tape, once i
re-create an empty domain, but what steps should i take to do
re-create the domain using some of the current volumes? (plus a new
one substituted for the bad one)

should i try to remove the domain, and re-create it?

in ufs, i would simply newfs the disks. is there an equivalent way of
"clearing" the volumes so i can re-create an empty domain, in order to
restore the entire domain?
