Thanks for all the responses I've received so far. I'm posting this to
ask more questions and provide more detail to my problem.
I am trying to connect a 9 track tape unit previously connected to a
Prime 5370. I know the tape drive works as I used it the day before the
port. I am connecting it to a Dec Alpha 2100A run Unix 3.2d-2 via
daisy-chainging to an 8mm tape drive.
The 9 track tape unit does not show when I do SHOW DEV. I didn't do an
INIT.
I have booted using the genvmunix according to the manual. This did not
detect the device. What it did do is cause system errors when the users
started working.
The 8mm tape drive had an external terminator on it. That has been
removed and placed on the 9 track. How do I know if the 8mm also has an
internal terminator?
The SCSI id number was given to me by our Digital Hardware Service
person. I assume it is unique. How can I tell?
I really appreciate all the help I receive from this list.
