Playing audio CD:s on AS500

We have a few AlphaStation 500:s at our site, all equipped with
RRD45:s. For some reason none of the CD-player control panels we have
(xmcd and xcd) work on these machines - all that happens is that xmcd
after a long time-out complains "Cannot open /dev/rrz4c, Errno=6",
waits another minute and quits.

We have no problems with xmcd or xcd and RRD45:s on DEC3000 - could it
be a Wide-SCSI-related problem?

Anyway, if anybody here has an explanation or fix/workaround, please
let me know.
