x-display error

I just rebooted our DEC 3000 model 400 using DU 4.0b. The terminal
would not come back to cde display. The error was:
X-server can not be started on display :0...

This is undoubtably due to my dumb messing with the Host Manager in an
attempt to allow remote root Xwindow access, via Exceed since my office is
remote from the DEC. I tried
un'xing the box on the bottom of the Host Manager screen to remove
X-host control. Then rebooting due to insufficient swap page errors.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, since I cannot find any infomation
on xhost using man. I'm new to SA, (a student in engineering) and hope to
get my advisors DEC back up as soon as possible.

Thanks
Brian
