SUMMARY: lost+found

It seems that if there is some disk corruption, you may well
find a user directory + files in lost+found, but there is
no way to restore the entire directory tree from there with
confidence. It's probably best to restore the directory
and files from the most recent dump, and get the user to
look for most recently changed files in lost+found.

If you have no dump, then you could attempt to reconstruct
the hierarchy from lost+found.

The system has only the inode number because files were not
associated with any particular directory.
