Hello all,

My origianl posting was:

I know I've seen postings concerning pcnfs in the past, but I can't find the
archives at www.ornl.gov to search. Please excuse me if this has been
covered before.

I am running DU 4.0b on an Alpha 4000 and Intergraph DiskAccess pcnfs ver
3.0 (an evaluation copy) on an Alpha running Windows NT 4.0 Workstation (
yes...that toy operating system).

I have configured nfs on the DU side including an exported file system. I
have only the exported file system listed in /etc/exports...that is, I have
no additional options such as "-rw=host" or "-root=host" associated with
that export. I can connect to this exported file system from another DU
system, read, write create and delete files with no problem.

I have enabled the rpc.pcnfsd on the DU system. At present there is no
/etc/pcnfsd.conf file.

I have loaded Intergraphs DiskAccess on the NT system. I can see the DU
systems exporting the file system, I can connect to the file system. I can
create files and directories from the NT system on the nfs mounted file
system and read a directory of all files on that file system.

However, if I try to copy or move an NT file onto that nfs mounted file
system, I get a message on the NT system saying something to the effect of
"... can not read source file...". An entry is made on the nfs mounted
filesystem for the name of the file I tried to copy but it is empty. I CAN
copy the source file between NT directories without problem so I assume that
the permissions on the file are okay.

Also, if I ftp the file to the DU system and put it in the exported file
system, I CANNOT access that file from the nfs mounted directory on the NT
system.

Permissions on the NT side seem correct. I assume directory permissions on
the DU side are correct since I can access the exported file system
successfully from another DU system. I have tried several different file
types including large avi files and small text files. I receive the same
error on all.

The only reply I recieved on this from the group was from David Gadbois.

I did investigate samba but was unable to use it for two reasons:

1) The nfs file system I wanted to mount was actually a DECSafe NFS Service.
Implementing Samba into DECSafe did not seem feasible.
2) My boss insisted on PCNFS.

The resolution to my problem actually came from Integraph Technical Support:

>Problem:
> When trying to copy a file from the local drive to the
> DACCESSNT mount, he gets this error:
> Cannot copy README.TXT
> Cannot read from the source file or disk.
>Solution:
> This problem is fixed in DACCESSNT version 3.1.
> DEC is supposed to be issuing a fix also.
> To work around this problem, make this change to
> the registry (Run regedt32):
> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
> SOFTWARE
> Intergraph
> DiskAccess
> CurrentVersion
> Default
> Edit->Add Value
> Value Name: DisableV3
> Data Type: REG_DWORD (OK)
> Data: 1 (OK)
> Reboot and mount.
