In answer to my own question, it works ...
What I will be attempting to use this for is to allow applications on an
AlphaServer to print to printers attached to PCs that dial up.
At present we use printer pass-through via a terminal emulator, but that has
all sorts of problems.
So, enter Samba, with smbprint.
We will set up the print queues on the AlphaServer and access them via
SMBprint. When the PC is connected, we can print to it. When it is not, the
queue will stop.
