Thanks to Toni Harbaugh-Blackford, and David Warren for their
replies. Matlab now have a fix for the licence manager to allow it to
work under the DU patch.
The solution is to retrieve the files
lmgrd.512a
lm_matlab.512a
from ftp.mathworks.com in /pub/tech-support/outgoing.
Put them in $MATLAB/etc/alpha and replace the older versions, e.g.
# mv lmgrd lmgrd.50a
# mv lm_matlab lm_matlab.50a
# mv lmgrd.512a lmgrd
# mv lm_matlab.512a lm_matlab
Everything works fine under the new patch once done.
thanks again,
Andrew
