Hmm. I've grabbed the latest (duv40bas00004-19970609) 4.0b jumbo patch,
and have been playing with it and dupatch prior to actually bringing the
guinea-pig machine down and patching. When I do the "pre-install", many of
the patches I'd like to use (including the big libc one) complain that this
or that subset (UUCP for the libc) isn't installed. They're right, of
course, but I _want_ it that way - can I get the patch installed
anyway (is there a "Just Do It" flag)? Will "setting a baseline" help?
Thanks to all who replied, especially Yaacov Fenster, who gave the
definitive answer:
We are aware of this packaging problem and plan to split the patches so
that you don't need UUCP installed in order to install libc patches.
Unfortunately, there's no date (other than "soon") for the repackaging.
To the second bit of the question ["can I get the patch installed anyway (is
there a "Just Do It" flag)? Will "setting a baseline" help?"], he points
out:
NO. Imagine that you could do it, and then you installed the UUCP
subsets. You would trash the "uucp" part of the patch, and if there is
a functional dependency between it and the libc part you would be in trouble.
Baselining is only for saying "Even though you (dupatch) don't know
where that file came from (manual patch), I (the user) do, and it's OK to
replace it".
