Installing a 100 Mb NIC

Hello!

I am trying to install a DE500 100 Mb NIC into an Alpha. The system
is running DU 4.0a. It is presently connected to the network via
the network interface on the combo I/O module (network+console port).
The DE500 is physically installed. A second network device (EWB0)
shows up at the console prompt. But when the system boots, no sign
of the second NIC.

I was led to believe that 4.0a included support for the DE500. I've
rebuilt the kernel (without modifying the config file) and that
didn't help. The manual I have explains how to add ptys and SCSI
devices but not anything as esoteric as a NIC.

Ideally, I'd ultimately like to disable the interface on the combo
board and just run the DE500 at 100 Mb. Can anyone tell me what
undoubtedly-easy step I have neglected? Is there anything special
I need to do to run the DE500 at 100 Mb? And once I get the DE500
working, how do I disable the other interface?

Thank you so much for the help.

Regards,
Jon
