Adding SCSI card to AlphaServer 1000

Managers:

We have an AlphaServer 1000.

We tried to add a storage works rack to a second SCSI chain connected
to a new SCSI card.

The devices show up when the SHO DEV is issued at the console prompt.

We make the devices rz8, rz9 etc.

When we try to label the disks with disklabel, we get a no such address
or device error.

I wonder if anyone knows what is wrong or how to fix it.
