Editing passwd file leads to problems!!!!

        Hai all,

Though it is a simple problem it is giving me continous trouble.
i used 'vipw' command to remove the passwd of a user.
and after that i gave the command 'mkpasswd -f /etc/passwd'
but this is not coming to effect. the system still does not
allow that user login without passwd.
        i am new to DEC OSF1 (V3.2).

is there any utility in OSF1 like 'adduser' that removes / changes
        user login names etc....

        Thanks in advance
        regards,
        BM Suresh
