The premise:
Digital Unix won't call the shutdown scripts unless you shutdown to single
user mode first, an inconvenience at best.
The questions:
First, Am I correct to be placing startup/shutdown scripts in /sbin/init.d?
Second, Is there is another place to grab a hook for shutdown scripts such
that they are called no matter what type of shutdown?
The answers:
- The limitation of being forced to do a 2-phase shutdown is OSF, not
Digital Unix (only a bit pedantic).
- Yes, startup/shutdowns scripts go in /sbin/init.d with links in /sbin/rc*.d.
- It was suggested that many sys admins use init 0 (or init s) to for level
transition.
- There was some information on how-to setup an init-level 6 reboot.
