3D30 cards on AlphaStation 255-4/266 crashes system

I'm trying to install two 3D30 graphics cards on an AlphaStation
255-4/266 which is running Digital Unix 4.0a.

I installed the O3D430 graphics kit. Whenever I boot & the X server
starts, the system crashes. This happens with one or two graphics
cards installed.

The firmware sees the card correctly (TGA2). Does this need a
different level of DU, or is this a known problem?
