disklabel question

I have a disk rz0 that I'd like to relabel.
partition a is about 131072 and partition b is 1882256 and partition g
is 2097152 ...now partition b is mainly used for my default swap.

I'd like to grow a by taking some from b but not disturbing g.
I tried to edit the label and rewrite it but I get an error
saying I can't do that:
disklabel: ioctl DIOCSDIINFO: Open partition would move or shrink
Use alternative partition

I think it's because the swap is actively being used. I tried changing
my fstab so that when I booted the swap1 device was rz3b but it
still grabbed rz0b anyways.

any ideas?
(digital unix 3.2c with advfs partitions/domains...)
I'm trying to grow it so I can upgrade to du4.0b ...
