Network Card is SLOW

Hello all,

I have an Alpha 4000 with a auto select 10/100 Mb network card.
When I try to telnet or ftp to this machine from the same subnet
it is horribly slow. If I go through a router then it seems to be alright.
Digital thought that it was probably sending packets sized for 100 Mb
network and that was slowing it down because it is connected to a
10 Mb hub. The router breaks down the packets so that is why it
is alright going through the router.

Is there any way to control the packet size and is this realy what is going
on?

I've been looking at the netstat statistices and they don't seem to be
out of the ordinary.

Thanks for any help.
