Dangers in exchanging ethernet for FDDI?

I have an alphaserver 1000a running DU 4.0a. It currently
has two ethernet cards. I would like to replace one
with FDDI card, and make it the default address. The FDDI
interface would assume the ip address of the old ethernet
interface.

My plan is to shut the machine down, swap cards, and boot
from genvmunix so it'll recognize the new card. Then I
figure I'll need to doconfig, and then run netsetup
or use ifconfig to configure the new interface.

Does that sound right? Any dangers to be expected when
using the same address for a different interface?

Thanks,
