Hello providers of wisdom,
A not so tricky one this time.
We have a neat little package database that manages the auto mounting
of many hundreds of packages from many servers to hundreds of widely
distributed machines. This grew up on Suns but operates brilliantly
across many platforms. I want to be able to use ris or something to
provide the same functionality from DEC packaged products. The problem
is that I could use our database system but..
For each package I need to know precisely what files are installed
into what location in the DU filesystem so that I can instruct
the package configuration to install the bits correctly on automount.
I don't know any easy way of getting this information from a DEC
package.
So... If I set up a ris server just for a few dozen packages how
can I persuade a ris client to automount those packages as required?
All of the ris documentation appears to steer me to install
everything onto a ris client, operating system, the works from the
ris server. But... I only want the few packages.
So...
Either...
How do you find out what a DEC package is installing and where??
Or....
How do you get ris to handle only packages without requiring it
to handle to os boot??
Thanking you all kindly for any information.
