Hi,

I wanted to know if it was possible to connect a Win95 PC (laptop) to an
AlphaStation (255 - DU 4.0) using SLIP or PPP over a serial line with just a
Null modem cable.

The answer is Yes! Many thanks to the following for suggestions:

Jim Surlow <jsurlow_at_hydra.acs.uci.edu>

Milan Lesnik <milan.lesnik_at_uni-mb.si>
Gerodopoulos Dimitris <diger_at_main.megasys.net.gr>

Milan pointed me to http://www.vt.edu:10021/K/kewells/net/index.html

This site provides a null modem dial-up networking driver (and
documentation) for Win95 and WinNT. Thanks to Kevin L. Wells for
providing it.

This is the solution I used and was able to get both SLIP and PPP to
work with it (at 38400 baud).

Gary suggested using Kermit which I think would also work well -
though Kermit 95 isn't downloadable and I suspect it might take a
while to obtain it in the UK.

Regards,
  Aideen
