Personal Workstation CD-ROM

I've just got a Personal Workstation 500AU, which has an Toshiba IDE CD-ROM
drive (model# XM-5702B).

I'm running DU 4.0c but can't mount the drive:

# /usr/sbin/mount -r /dev/rz0c /mnt
/dev/rz0c on /mnt: I/O error

Anyone got a solution?
