Hi,
I wrote about a problem with booting the DU 4.0C CD in the internal drive in
a Digital Personal Workstation 433AU ... It wouldn't ...
I have now plugged on an external SCSI CD-ROM drive and the CD boots OK in
that drive. So now I have placed a call with field service ... :-)
Along the way I received many comments, some seemingly from left field ...
Having spent some 8 or so years working for Digital and supporting ULTRIX
and Digital UNIX I do know how to boot a CDROM ...
However, Tom Blinn (Dr Who?) gave me an excellent suggestion wrt migrating
to AdvFS on all partitions, so after I carefully read the disklabel man
page, I managed to get the AdVFS bootblocks onto my other drive, and the
system is now happilly running off of the second drive with everything up
under AdvFS.
I did strike the dump problem but vdump came to the rescue ...
Will send more info when Digital Circus figures out the problem ...
Regards
