Subject: Re: your mail
I suggest you should in no conditions forget your root-password. If your
memory is so bad, please write it down on a sheet of paper, and keep in
under lock & key.
Under worst conditions, if you forget your root-password, let the
users say
#sync
for 3 or 4 times, this saves the last modified data. Switch off the
system just like that, Come to the console prompt,
>>> boot dka400
here cd-rom is assumed to be of scsi-id 4. After booting through the
cd-rom, come to the system-management / unix-shell..
Now your cd-rom is mounted as your root file-system in the read-only
mode. Say
#mount -u /
this brings / ie., the root-file system in the read-write mode.
#cd /etc
#rm passwd.dir ; rm passwd.pag
#vi passwd
and remove the encrypted password in the row indicated by login-id root.
and then, say
#mkpasswd /etc/passwd
and this creates passwd.dir and passwd.pag
and next time you can login as root without a password.
But, please donot forget the root-password.
