[Q] Disklabel weirdness 2.

Hi DU Admins

I only received one reply to my question about anomolous arithmetic
in a disk label for an rz29b under DU 4.0B. That was from Mike at
obrien_at_splusnet.com who reported the same problem under DU 3.2G
but he thinks only after he installed some patches.

(By the way Mike: when I tried to reply to your message my reply
bounced. Is there a problem with your return address?)

After discovering this problem on the DU 4.0B box I decided to
check the disk labels on our recently delivered 433au with DU 4.0C
factory installed.

For one of the disks (an RZ1BB-BS) I found this:

   sectors/cylinder: 1376
   cylinders: 3045
   sectors/unit: 4110480

Now 1376*3045 comes to 4189920 not 4110480. This disk has dynamic
geometry so I guess that means the sectors/cylinder is not constant
across the disk but in that case I would have thought the number
in the disklabel should be the average value. Obviously it isn't
so what does it represent?

The other disk on this machine is an RZ1CB-BA which also has dynamic
geometry and the disklabel for it doesn't show this problem.

Can anyone tell me if there is something wrong with the disklabel
for the RZ1BB-BS? At the moment it looks like it's missing
about 40 MB of disk. The c and h partitions look like this:

  c: 4110480 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - 2987*)
  h: 970368 3140112 4.2BSD 1024 8192 16 # (Cyl. 2282*- 2987*)

So were are the other 57 and a bit cylinders?

Thanks
Ian
