NSR drops indexes.

We've just spent about 3 months donking our heads with DEC over NSR
recycling/deleting indexes. We were running 4.2.A, that was a little
buggy, then up graded to 4.2B. About 3 months later we saw that for
all our save groups where the browse time was greater than 1 month.
NSR had dropped all of some save sets and some of others!! DEC send
us patches to solve the dropping indexes ( which appears to work thus
far )......

But due to a company demand to restore the last 5 years worth of data,
we attempted to user the scanner command to reload all the indexes.
After about 5 hours of scanning the tape, it would get right to the
very end and abort!! After a month of doing this that and everything
else. Running analysis scripts and forwarding the data on, trying
this option, that option etc. Some on at DEC in the USA said try
removing the volume from the index first.

This we did and guess what. It damn well works!!!

So in summary, get those patches in from DEC ASAP ( nsrv42b-012 &
nsrv42b-013 ). Check your save set indexes. It they say recov or
recycl in the 3rd column rather than browse - you've lost your
indexes. If you have to scan in a tape user scanner -ivvvvvv
