[Q] Runaway Xdec?

Hi DU Admins

The system is a 433au running DU4.0c and CDE. At the moment
the console screen is blank and doesn't respond to mouse
movements or keyboard presses. The monitor passes all the
diagnostic tests.

Top shows that Xdec is consuming more than 20% of the CPU
even though the only user logged in is me via telnet. There
are no X logins or X applications running.

The Xdec process doesn't respond to either a HUP or a TERM
even though the man page for Xdec says:

SIGTERM This signal causes the server to exit cleanly.

I don't want to reboot this machine if I can avoid it because
there is an important job running in the background.

Anyone got any suggestions? Would '/sbin/init.d/xlogin stop'
followed by '.. start' fix things?

Thanks for any advice.
Ian
