How should I install jumbo patch v4 from 8/8/97 if I have jumbo
patch v4 from an earlier date? Backing out the patches from the earlier
v4 put back the old setld and dupatch, but didn't update the software
set database. When I tried to install the new v4, the dupatch that
comes with the patch didn't try to update those tools because it
thought they were already updated. setld and dupatch from /usr/sbin
wouldn't work because whoami doesn't return anything in single user
mode. I had to hack the scripts at the whoami statements to make them
work. Obviously, this was a hassle. Should have just have installed
the new v4 over the old one? If so, wouldn't that have doubled the
backed up patches dir size?
Sorry for the convoluted explanation, but I figure If I leave
out details, it will be more puzzling. How are others handling this?
