I have a AlphaStation 500/400 and recently bought a new SCSI controller to
add some more SCSI devices, and to access older devices which couldn't be
recognized by the new built-in controller (specifically, I purchased a DEC
KZPAA PCI/SCSI Host Adapter).
Problem: I can't mount the SCSI devices on the new controller
At console level, they are seen:
SHOW DEVICES shows them at dkb... (disks) and mkb... (tape) devices
SHOW CONFIG shows
PCI BUS
Bus 00 Slot 09 ISP 1020 Scsi controller (original controller)
Bus 00 Slot 11 NCR 810 Scsi controller (new controller
But when I try to mount one of the disks:
mount /dev/rz8c /mnt
I get:
Error: /dev/rz8c is an invalid device or cannot be opened.
Thinking that the kernel didn't know about the new controller, I added
controller scsi1 at isp0 slot 11
into the kernel configuration file and remade the kernel, but nothing changed
after a reboot; start-up messages still never mentioned scsi1. Did I get
this wrong?
Advice?
