A summary follows with regards to the problems I was having with a
Micropolis 1991 9Gb when used with Digital UNIX 4.0B
The problem has been tracked down to a power saving function on Dec Unix 4.0b
that allows the spin down of devices to save energy.
With the help of the dxpower GUI I was able to find an option to prevent
the drives from spining down. The errors have now gone and I no longer need
to run my cron script to provide regular access to the drive.
another useful command to see if the system has power management configured
is :-
sysconfig -q pwrmgr
Special Thanks to :-
