Hello all:
I have been plagued by an intermittent problem over the years
and thought it was about time I found out what has been going
wrong so I am posting this plea.
I have a disk which stores scratch files, occasionally one gets out
of control and fills the disk. I delete the file successfully but
it does not make any difference to the available space on the disk
as reported by the "df" command. And I still can't access the space
the large "deleted" file took up.
First of all: Does anyone know why this is happening and perhaps
how it can be prevented.
Second: Without re-booting the machine can I get the space back without
unmount the disk (it is NFS mounted so all attempts to unmount
it are met with a "file system busy" response.
If anyone has a little insight, I would appreciate very much hearing
from them.
Thanks. I will post a SUMMARY.
Richard
