FW: Raw Partitions for Sybase

Graham,
We are running Sybase on raw. All you need is a device in the
/dev directory pointing to the raw disk. You can test this by using the dd
command to see if you can write the data to the disk. Sybase will take the raw
device you specify and divide the disk up.

You need to add this to your sysconfigtab and reboot your
system. You current problem sounds like the max-proc setting.
                pts:
                        nptys = 512
                proc:
                                max-proc-per-user = 256
                        max-threads-per-user = 1024

You also need to make sure that you added the devices in order.
If you skip devices it will not use the ones you added. I also changed maxusers
in the kernel from 32 to 512. You can create a script that telnets in a loop so
that you can simulate users login into the system.

We had the same problem with our keyboard using the cybex switch
boxes. I plugged a DEC keyboard and mouse into straight into the system and the
problem went away.

Thanks,
          Brian

Subject: Raw Partitions for Sybase

I have set-up an Apha Station 500 Test box for installing Syabse on it
and I read in the documentation that sybase requires Raw Partitions.
Any of you had experience of setting up raw partitions for Sybase.

Also when trying to logon/telent to the Aplha as a non-root user I get
the error message "too many users logged on, try again later". My
kernel is configured for maxusers 32 and I've created more ttys. Any
     ideas ?

Finally, a trivial question here but my keyboard does not appear to be
working properly. At the firmware prompt it tells I get PCXAL for the
keyboard type however, when in the UNIX shell I don't get the pipe
     symbol (using a U.K keyboard).

     TIA
