Thanks to the following for responding to my SUMMARY:
Michel-Ange CAMHI <camhi_at_ec-lille.fr>
Wesley Darlington <w.darlington_at_am.qub.ac.uk>
Paula Moore <paula_at_eos.nih.gov>
"Richard L. Eisenman" <eisenman_at_tricity.wsu.edu>
"Kennedy, J Shane" <KennedyJS_at_corning.com>
They all basically told me the same thing: If you just do "su" to
get to root, you keep your own environment. If you do "su -" you
go through a full log in as root and get root's environment. I
tried this and it worked just as well as logging in as root from
the beginning.
Thanks again,
Mike
