To all,
We have several 2100's running DU 4.0a in mixed network environments.
Currently we are running one 2100 as a small NFS server in a 3 DEC, 2 Sun
environment, with the 2100 on half-duplex 10baseT connected to a Catalyst 5000
switch. One of the Sun's is a Sparc 20 running Solaris 2.5.1 - also serving NFS,
also connected to the same switch, also half-duplex 10baseT. Another 2.5.1 Sun
is the NIS master on the network.
I can copy a large file (the emacs tar file) from the DEC NFS partition to the
Sun NFS partition. If I try to copy a large file from the Sun NFS partition to
the DEC NFS partition, I get the "NFS server not responding" error. (Then the
"NFS server ok" - then .... continuously cycling - only way to recover is to
reboot both.)
Small files are fine, i.e. my home directory is on the DEC NFS partition, and
I can log in from anywhere with no problems. Another interesting piece of info
is that one our network guys was monitoring the switch while I tried this, and
saw a bunch of ethernet collisions between the 2100 and the switch!
Is this NFS software, an NFS setting, or is it hardware related? (I checked
the archives, and I couldn't see anything that approached this behaviour.)
Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance.
Bryan
