How can I input Kanji et. al. from a PCXAL keyboard?

Hi,

I've installed worldwide language support for Japanese and can
display Kanji and the other varients supported under this package
but I am unable to input Kanji directly from the PCXAL keyboard
attached to an Alphaserver 400 4/233 running DU 3.2D-1. Since
there's no compose key on this keyboard is there some keyboard
sequence which will map the keys to Japanese?
