Hello again !
Sorry for wasting your excellent brains with this silly question. I
simply forgot that I altered the Xservers file. The problem was that
initially I had trouble getting graphics to work because the Open3D
license didn't load properly and as one of possible solutions I tried
altering the Xservers file. After reinstalling both O3D and the license
xdm worked OK but CDE was broken as a result of the altered Xservers
file. The broken config looked like
:0 Local local_at_console /usr/bin/X11/X -screen0 1280 :0
which caused the flickering screen. After getting back the original
:0 Local local_at_console /usr/bin/X11/X :0
everything is OK.
