On September 23 I posted the following message as a summary to my earlier
request for help with backups.

>Two weeks ago I posted a request for advice related to disk backups in
>DEC UNIX environment. I received 30 replies (thank you Craig, Merv,
>Peter, Gerardo, Jim, anonymous, Michel-Ange, Colin, Mike, Casey, Paul,
>Lawrence, Santosh, Dejan, John, Barry, Mark, David, Pam, Jim, Jim,
>Benjie, Jef, Lars, Julian, Karen, anonymous, Yasir, Alan and Paul).

>Most suggested either dump or vdump and offered a number of useful
>pointers to the man pages. Several included scripts they use, and there
>was even a reference to a web page with the responses to a similar
>question posted there.

As several people have pointed out, etiquette required me to post at least
a summary of the responses I received. I apologize for not having done so
earlier.

The reference to the web page was from Colin Brooks. It contains a wealth
of information on dump and vdump and several scripts.

                http://www.pacific.net/~cbrooks/backup.shtml

The responses with scripts duplicate the information in Colin's web page.

Thanks for your indulgence.
