100mb vs. 10 mb mode on PCI board

We have a Dec4000 series alpha with a PCI 10/100 fast etherworks card.
How do we make it use the 100mb mode..it seems to default to 10 even
though it's plugged into a 100mb port... what do we need to do
or is this supposed to be autodetecting...
