Hi,

I have DEC AXP 3000/300L with DEC OSF/1 V1.3A. Here are more details:

DEC OSF/1 V1.3A (Rev. 113)
DEC3000 - M300 system
Firmware revision: 3.2
PALcode: OSF version 1.34

I need to upgrade firmware, because I would like to install DIGITAL UNIX
4.0B on my machine. I don't have Firmware CDROM, but I got appropriate
boot file from
ftp://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/Alpha/firmware/v4.0/dec3000/m300_v7_0.btp

I don't have floppy drive on my DEC workstation, so the only one method
of upgrading firmware is through BOOTPD.

I don't have second workstation with DIGITAL UNIX, so I run BOOTPD at SGI
with IRIX 5.3. BOOTPD I use is an enhanced version of the CMU BOOTP server
(bootp-2.4.3). Here is the line in bootptab file corresponding to my DEC
machine:

alf: ha=08002bbbe717:ip=148.81.6.220:ht=1:bf=/usr/local/etc/boot/m300_v7_0.btp:

My DEC workstation has ethernet address 08:00:2b:bb:e7:17 and IP address
148.81.6.220. Netmask is ffffff00.

BOOTPD server (i.e. SGI workstation) has IP address 148.81.6.150 and
netmask 0xffffff00. The file /usr/local/etc/boot/m300_v7_0.btp belongs
to root.sys and has 644 permissions mode.

On the console of my DEC machine after command:

>> boot ez0

I have:

INIT_S_SCC...
INIT_S_NI...
INIT_S_SCSI...
AUDIT_BOOT_STARTS ...
AUDIT_BOOT_REQ
Host server IP address is 148.81.6.150
AUDIT_BSERVER_FOUND

  84 FAIL

I really don't know what I have missed.

Any suggestions?
