Hello everyone,
I'd give my first born if someone out there
knows this one (just a figure of speech, I
am not giving away any children...).
I have an alpha 1000 running 3.2c and was going
to update to 3.2g. I used the setld command to
do this. At the end of it all, there is a kernel
rebuild for this to take effect. This error occured:
Makefile:998: *** Recursive variable `target_machine' references itself
(eventually). Stop.
After talking with DEC support, I was told that 3.2c to
3.2g was an invalid upgrade path, and that I have to restore
my / and /usr filesystems. Ok, so I did that and I am back
to 3.2c again. I want to upgrade to 4.0 so I thought I'd
make sure the kernel can be rebuilt as it is. I get the
same error as above when I do a "doconfig -c <filename>".
So, now I cannot rebuild my kernel and I am a bit worried
that upgrading 4.0 won't fix the problem. Does anyone have
any ideas?
Thanks,
