My original question:
> I am looking to purchase a tape backup. I currently have a TLZ06 4mm DAT
> tape backup. I am considering the TLZ9L 4mm DAT Mini-Library from DEC or
> the HP Sure Store DAT 24x6e DAT autoloader (or possibly HP DLT 418
> autoloader). Does anyone want to comment on their experiences with tape
> devices , especially the above choices?
>
> One person I have talked to has suggested that I purchase a second SCSI
> controller for the tape device. Any comments on this?

Thanks to those who replied:

The summary:
tape device:
Most respondents suggested to go with a DLT tape drive. DLT is faster,
more reliable and can hold more data than DAT.

2nd scsi bus:
The consensus was that this is a good idea. It should improve throughput.
IT was suggested to put the OS disk and tape drive on one bus and the data
disks on the other bus. However, use of monitor was suggested to see if
this setup is appropriate for the system in question.
