LSM setup

I'm trying to setup LSM for the first time and haven't gotten past a
problem with the volsetup command. Sample volsetup output follows-

# volsetup rz1
lsm:voliod: cannot open /dev/voliod: No such device or address
Approximate maximum number of physical disks that will be managed by LSM
? [10]
Initialize vold and the root disk group:
lsm:vold: Error: cannot open /dev/volconfig: No such device or address
Fatal errors prevent /usr/sbin/volsetup from continuing.
Stop.

I know the volsetup command did create the /dev/voliod and /dev/volconfig
devices since they exist with the correct time stamps. Anybody know a
fix for this problem? Thanks in advance.
