I'd say so. Puts the lie to DEC on the issue of scalability, doesn't
it?

I've been a DEC fan for years, but I get *ANGRY* every time I have to
think about this issue. They provide a GUI that doesn't work, and fail
to
properly document the text-based alternatives. It's an insult to their
customers. I guess they know few of us are willing to switch vendors
over
this, but I'm afraid it's part of a larger pattern.

Sorry for the late response to this. I bet you didnt get too many as
not
too many people have so many accounts. We have 9000+ accounts on an
Alpha
2100A with 1GB of memory and I dont bother with the dxaccounts utility.
It
never seems to turn up when I execute it (and boy would I! :-)). Check
out
the uglier text based "edauth" utility. It should be located in
/usr/tcb/bin (that is if you are running C2 passwords. I assume you
are!).
Hope this helps ya out some. Happy holidays.

However wolfe_at_gerund.enet.dec.com says...
Yes, the GUI cannot handle that number of accounts. Our upper limit
for "tolerable" performance is about 1000 users today (takes
about a minute to start up with that many users - that might
not be tolerable for some). We are in the process of fixing
the scalability issues right now. At this point 10K accounts is
looking very good. If possible, we will try to make these changes
available as a patch so users don't have to wait all the way till
the next release. The only workaround till then is to use the CLI
commands
and or the convuser tools.
