Teacher needs method of checking ethernet cards

I teach in a public school computer lab. We have 27 units with
approximately 27 workstations for student use. We have various ethernet
cards. Some systems run Windows 95, some run v 3.1.
Is there a program that will test the cards in these machines that will
not break us up financially?
