Hi,
Sorry for the long delay in posting a summary to my
DNS question. The problem was just fixed yestereday.
Thanks for replies from...

The original question (summarized) was how can I get mail to work
to a domain called for example: outside.domain.com which is
outside the firewall when the internal domain is called
domain.com.
One problem with the firewall is it wasn't handling DNS
correctly which really needs to be worked out still,
which I will look into.
A temporary fix for the firewall was to put in the
named.boot file the following lines...
forwarders ip_address_of_external_dns_provider
slave
This fixed DNS name resolution.
Then an MX record was added for outside.domain.com on the
firewall such as...
outside.domain.com. IN MX outside.domain.com.
I don't have the exact syntax with me so I'm not sure
about the "."'s, but I'm sure you get the idea.
No A record or PTR record was required.
In fact, adding an A record for outside.domain.com broke
ALL mail through the firewall.
thanks,
Allan
