Adding new disk drive

I will be adding a new disk drive, a RZ28M-VA, to our DEC Alpha
running 4.0B and was hoping someone could verify my procedure for
doing this. (This is the first time we have added additional drives
and are not comfortable with UNIX!!

        - Make a copy of the existing VMUNIX file
        - Rebuild the generic kernel to include the new drive
        - Run DOCONFIG -C with the new generic kernel to modify our
            system's configuration file.
        - Move the new VMUNIX file to root directory
        - Reboot
        - MAKEDEV
        - Partition disk
        - NEWFS, etc,,,

The system administration book makes reference to static drives and
loadable drives - what is the difference?

        Thanks in advance.
