NFS timeouts...

Ever since installing a backbone switch on our net, we're getting
intermittant periods of NFS timeouts, as in

NFS3 server alpha not responding, still trying
NFS3 server alpha OK

These occur at unpredictable intervals and ususally repeat for anywhere
from 30 seconds to one or two minutes. I'm having trouble believing that
this is strictly latency on the switch, however, we evaluated three
different makes with all three showing the same effect. The two servers
most impacted are on there own full duplex 100 meg segments. The first
NFS mounts it's user directories from the second, and displays the
symptoms most frequently. The file server is running 16 nfsd's and 14
nfsiod's. Timoeouts on the mounts are at 5 seconds, and the exported
directories are on both UFS and ADVFS file systems. Anyone out there seen
this kind of behaviour before?
