I wanted to thank everyone for all of their help regarding this issue.
All of the responses were much appreciated and they were extremely helpful.
Apparently, the way to redirect console access is fairly straightforward.
At the Boot Prompt level:
>> set console serial
>> init
That should do it. Also, thanks to Tom Webster for suggesting not to try
starting XDM. I can now use /dev/tty00 as my console. :)
