I have a new Alphastation 255/233 DUnix 4.0b, 160Mb RAM, Powerstorm 3D10
(S3 Trio64), OPEN3D410 and have a couple of problems after installing the FIS.
NTP:
Xntpd deamon fails to synchronise with server and updates the time from between
1 secs and 3000 secs over 24hrs. DEC CSC supplied me with a patch to the
library lib_dec_s3.so and now xntpd synchronises (?) but now fails to set the time.
e.g
Feb 26 21:16:14 solg7 xntpd[1028]: xntpd version=3.4x
Feb 26 21:16:14 solg7 xntpd[1028]: tickadj = 1, tick = 976, tvu_maxslew = 1023
Feb 26 21:16:14 solg7 xntpd[1028]: precision = 976 usec

Feb 27 01:56:30 solg7 xntpd[1028]: Previous time adjustment didn't complete

Graphics Backing Store:
We are using IDL to display graphs/images, which works fine, but if you move
a window over the graph/image and away again, the part of the graph/image
where the window was overlaid is removed and is not refreshed.
Now, Graphics backing Store is set in the Decterm window under Options, Graphics
selection, and IDL has the RETAIN parameter set to 1 = Server/windowing system
to perform backing store. Even setting RETAIN to 2 = IDL to perform backing store
fails to work with this graphics card. Is there an enable instruction for CDE ?
Has anyone experienced similar problems ?
CSC believe the NTP problem is associated with the Graphics Card. I suspect the
solution is to throw out the cheapo graphics card and invest in decent one as
I seem to recall similar problems back in the early days of VS3100's !
Thanks in advance.
Jeff Payne.
