Floppy drive light on alpha 500/500

I have an alpha 500/500 running both NT 4.0 workstation and UNIX 4.0B. The
floppy light is ALWAYS ON. Does anyone know why it is always on and how to make
to turn on properly when only in use??? I have no docs for this.
